LONG nose GAR A gar is a silver/brownish, color with black spots. It’s my opinion that gars are sort of ugly, and scary because of their sharp teeth. They have long mouths with sharp teeth. Gars usually live in poorly oxygenated lakes/rivers. This leads to poor breathing habits. They put up with that I by breathing though their air bladders. Females tend to grow larger in width than males, and females live longer. Gars mate in shallow areas during December and March. Their eggs are poisonous to other fish and human beings. They leave their nest letting some other fish take care of the eggs. They come back when the eggs are hatched. Gars will produce about 30,000 eggs a year. Gars eat zooplankton, small fish, frogs, and crustaceans. They get their prey by staying still and attacking when at a striking point. They usually let the prey sit in their mouth until it dies. Gars are a catchable fish. If a line is thrown out in the open water they usually break the string with their sharp teeth, or pull you in if you’re not careful. They are caught with treble hooks, and by bow fishermen and using minnows. Gars also arn’t like other fish. They have four fins.Two of the fins are located on the right side hand, and two on the left. Gar may sound and look mean by they have never attacked or killed a human. They just stick to little fishes and minnows.
